Famous Italian lovers, Laura and Petrarch, remind us that true love continues after death. The original Italian poem below begin online one with these words, "Giovane donna sott' green UN lauro." Laurel tree was symbolic of the wife, Laura.
In this sestina, Petrarch votes to love her Laura until his death, while, herself, had already died in the prime of his youth. He was one of the most romantic man, one who loved purely, and from a distance.
